We manage Crown-owned properties in the Port Hills red zone, while preserving options for future use and to support the regeneration of greater Christchurch.

Christchurch City Council is now responsible for managing Crown-owned red zone flatland areas (Brooklands, Southshore and South New Brighton, and the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor) so please contact them if your query relates to flatland management.

Our management of the Port Hills involves carrying out work on a day-to-day basis such as maintaining vegetation, managing weeds and pests, and removing rubbish.

We also pay the rates for these properties and are responsible for any third-party property interests including shared driveways or easements.

Our priorities are to:

  • Manage hazards to prevent harm
  • Maintain amenity and ecological values
  • Work collaboratively with local authorities and stakeholders
  • Manage access
  • Remove built structures and apply interim land treatment.

Please contact us if you have concerns about security or maintenance of a Crown-owned property in the Port Hills residential red zone:

Email redzoneinfo@linz.govt.nz or call 0800 665 463.
