Cabinet approval to issue instructions to the Parliamentary Counsel Office for the drafting of a Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Consolidation Bill

Reserves and Other Lands Disposal (ROLD) legislation is used to make non-controversial changes on land-related matters. There are currently over 90 ROLD Acts and Acts with similar purpose, dating back to 1864.

This Cabinet paper sought permission to issue instructions to the Parliamentary Counsel Office for the drafting of a Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Consolidation Bill. This Bill will enable the repeal of 21 ROLD and related Acts and consolidate sections from these Acts that remain necessary into a single Act.

The Bill will also authorise six non-controversial changes to the boundaries of national parks, and amend provisions in the ROLD Act 1995 for the administration of a statutory Board that administers an iwi land endowment.
