Who can access the KiwImage imagery?

All Government Agencies, State Owned Enterprises (SOE), Territorial & Regional Authorities, Non Government Emergency Services, Crown Research Institutes, and Universities.
What are the product specifications?

There are 3 KiwImage products available.

  • Product 1 – Bundled product (panchromatic & multispectral)
  • Product 2 – Pansharpened product (natural colour mosaic)
  • Product 3 – Basic product (uncorrected imagery)

Product 1 – Multi-spectral & Panchromatic The 2.4m Multi-spectral and 0.6m Panchromatic Bundle Product will be delivered as strips of ortho-rectified 16-bit imagery (block-adjusted) as opposed to a mosaiced product. This delivery method will maintain the integrity of the pixel values for the image analyst end-users. The image strips will be delivered per date of acquisition in a tiled and uncompressed format.

Product 2 - Natural Colour Mosaic (PanSharpened) The 0.6m Natural Colour Product will be delivered as an ortho-rectified, colour-balanced seamless RGB mosaic in 8-bit depth which is the most appropriate for use in a GIS-environment. The mosaic will be delivered in tiles as defined by the NZTopo50 map sheets in Geotiff and compressed formats.

Product 3 – Basic Product The 2.4m Multi-spectral and 0.6m Panchromatic Basic Product will be delivered as 16-bit strips. This delivery method will maintain the integrity of the pixel values for the image analyst end-users. The image strips will be delivered per date of acquisition in an un-tiled and uncompressed format.

What DEM will be used?

Landcare Research has kindly supplied their enhanced LINZ DEM for this project. This has been merged with the SRTM 1 Arc-second (30 m) product (http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm). The merged DEM will be used for the remainder of the project or until a better national DEM becomes available.

Are the pansharpened 8 bit products mosaiced?

Yes, all 8 bit products are mosaiced to NZTopo50 sheet boundaries.

Are the pansharpened 8 bit products tiled?

Yes, all 8 bit products are mosaiced & tiled to the following sizes:

How will I know the age of the image I am looking at?

Shape files will be supplied which shows the boundary of the Quickbird image scenes used to make up the mosaic.

How big is a QuickBird scene?

What is the total storage requirement?

The estimate for product 1 (Bundle Panchromatic & Multispectral) & Product 2 (Pansharpened), will be 12 terabytes.

Can I on-sell the data?

No you can not on sell or pass on the digital data. Data may be exchanged between agencies that have signed the MOU.

Can I use the data to make products which I then on-sell?

You may print images or provide derivative products from the data and sell these at any size or shape, you are required to place an appropriate copyright notice with each image as stated in the EULA of the MOU.

Can I use the data as a backdrop on our public web site at full resolution?

You may make available to the public one screen view of the data at time at full resolution. They may download a single screen grab (at full screen resolution). You are required to place an appropriate copyright notice with each image as stated in the EULA of the MOU.
