5 September 2016
No immediate change to geodetic coordinates is needed following the Te Araroa earthquake on Friday 2 September 2016.
Analysis of data collected by LINZ and GNS science shows that onshore ground movements caused by the earthquake were less than a centimetre, and so immediate changes to coordinates are not needed.
In the medium term, we will make any minor updates to geodetic coordinates as part of our ongoing maintenance of the geodetic network.
