Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is offering tertiary scholarships to encourage students in geospatial study.
LINZ Deputy Chief Executive Location Information Jan Pierce says the geographic information science (GIS) scholarships will help build New Zealand’s geospatial workforce.
“LINZ is very pleased to offer these scholarships to recognise the importance of high-value geographic and property information to our economy, environment and society now, and into the future,” Ms Pierce says.
LINZ is offering one undergraduate and one postgraduate GIS scholarship, each worth up to $5,000.
In 2018, LINZ established its external tertiary GIS scholarships. Last year’s postgraduate scholarship recipient, Mat Darling from the University of Canterbury, has been exploring how big data and geospatial information can provide insights to help locate transient people, such as international tourists, during natural disasters.
Applications for this year’s LINZ external GIS tertiary scholarships are open from 9 October 2019 until 15 November 2019.
