LINZ’s Christchurch regeneration powers could be extended

20 February 2020

Parliament is considering a Bill that proposes to amend the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016, including the extension of some of LINZ’s bespoke regeneration powers.

LINZ is treating the proposed 2-year extension as a back-up only and is still aiming to have all statutory decisions made before the original Act expires on 30 June 2021.

If enacted, the Bill will extend LINZ’s powers to bundle and transfer land titles in the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor residential red zone from the Crown to Christchurch City Council. This work supports delivery of the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor Regeneration Plan.

LINZ is committed to the transition to local leadership and speeding up the red zone title reconfiguration work, as part of implementing the 2019 Crown-Council Global Settlement Agreement.
