What you have to pay

This page provides the fees for applications, standing consents, and the administrative penalties in the Overseas Investment Regulations 2005. Application fees vary according to the type of application, the value of the investment and whether the decision will be made by the relevant Ministers or the Overseas Investment Office (OIO). Administrative penalties vary according to the type of penalty and the value of the investment.

Read about our legislation, Ministers and delegated powers.

How to pay

We request the fee for an application when it is accepted for assessment. We will not begin assessing an application until the relevant fee has been paid or we have received evidence of payment.

We request the fee for a transaction covered by a forestry standing consent when we are notified of the transaction.

We request the fees for transactions covered by a residential, non-residential use or incidental use standing consent before consent is granted. There is no additional fee each time the OIO is notified of a transaction under a residential, non-residential use or incidental use standing consent.

If the application seeks retrospective consent, we will not forward our recommendation to the decision maker until the administrative penalty has been paid.

The OIO does not have the power to exempt, waive, discount or refund fees. The OIO will not refund fees if an application is withdrawn, consent is declined or the OIO finds that no consent was required.

Fees and administrative penalties should be paid by direct credit.

Include “OIO – [Applicant’s Name]” in the reference field of the transfer. You may need to abbreviate the applicant’s name as the reference field is limited to a certain number of characters. It is important that you include “OIO” in the reference field so we can quickly identify and confirm your payment.

Payments should be made to the following bank account:

Land Information New Zealand National Office
Westpac account: 03-0049-0002402-00

Offshore deposits also require the following information: swift code WPACNZ2W and branch 318 Lambton Quay, Wellington.

Payees, and particularly those paying from offshore, need to ensure that any bank fee incurred for the electronic transfer is paid by them and not deducted from the transferred amount.
