Documents related to Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa New Zealand Geographic Board standardising Ōwhiro Bay by adding a macron on the [O].

Standardising Ōwhiro Bay (for the suburb) with a macron and approving the name as official was part of a project that Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa New Zealand Geographic Board undertook in 2019. In conjunction with the Google – Vodafone Say It Tika campaign, the Board reviewed the top 200 Māori place names searched for on Google. Owhiro Bay (for the bay), made official in 1948, was standardised with a macron as Ōwhiro Bay at the same time.

The response released Board minutes, iwi consultation, expert orthographic advice, consultation with Wellington City Council, and a Board report.
