Place naming

The New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa met last week to consider place name proposals, including the proposal to change the name of Clive River in Hawke’s Bay to Te Awa o Mokotūāraro.

The Board supports the proposal and will publicly notify it for one month from 18 January 2023. Submissions received during this consultation period will be considered at the Board’s next hui which is anticipated to be around April 2023. This process can take several months to conclude and the Board wants to clarify that the proposed name change is not yet finalised, and no official name change has been settled on.
