LINZ has divided its records into the following main record types:

Charts
Specialised nautical charts to aid safe navigation in New Zealand waters and certain areas of Antarctica and the South West Pacific
Field books/notes
Contain survey measurements obtained in the field
Indexes
Includes Landonline, New Zealand's database for land title and survey information
Instruments
Legal documents (eg transfer of ownership, mortgage, lease)
Plans
Legal boundaries of properties
Titles (computer registers)
Records of property ownership
Topographic maps
National topographic mapping at 1:50,000 and broader scales
Traverse records/sheets
Schedule of survey observations, plus coordinates assigned to each survey mark

Historic land record types
