Kia ora koutou

I hope you’re all keeping warm and well as we head into the last month of winter. With the new financial year underway, it’s a great time to reflect on our overseas investment activity over the past 12 months.

In the 2024/25 financial year, the overseas investment team:

  • approved 641 overseas investment applications, including 439 through the One Home to Live In pathway and 127 for other consents,
  • monitored 1,354 consent conditions,
  • undertook 79 enforcement actions,
  • received 1,089 general enquiries and answered 109 Official Information Act requests.

The total value of transactions assessed by the team was $17 billion.

Looking ahead, the new financial year is shaping up to be just as busy, with the Overseas Investment (National Interest Test and Other Matters) Amendment Bill making its way through Parliament. Public submissions on the Bill closed last Wednesday (23 July) and the team are working closely with Treasury to support the Select Committee phase.

Nelson-Tasman weather event

The recent flooding in the Nelson-Tasman region has had a significant impact on local communities, and we recognise that many are still dealing with the aftermath. Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this challenging time.

If you are a consent holder in the region and the floods have affected your ability to meet consent conditions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’re here to support you and want to ensure you can prioritise recovery without added stress or concern about compliance.
