Consultation is open on a proposed regulation involving farm plans that aims to improve the consenting process for Crown pastoral leaseholders.
Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), the agency responsible for administering 1.2 million hectares of Crown pastoral land in the South Island high country, is carrying out the consultation which opened on Monday 5 December.
The proposals set out the minimum information required for farm plans provided by leaseholders to LINZ when applying for consent to undertake discretionary pastoral activities.
LINZ Head of Crown Property Sonya Wikitera says while it’s not a requirement for leaseholders to share their farm plan, some leaseholders suggested it may assist us when considering consent applications, as well as providing insight into their longer term plans.
“Farm plans may also help streamline the consenting process, as leaseholders avoid having to supply the same information already contained in their plan.”
The proposed regulation is part of a number of changes LINZ has recently made to support the implementation of reforms to the Crown Pastoral Land Act.
Consultation closes 23 January 2023.
