Information on how to apply for permission to use Crown lands (including lakebeds, riverbeds and pastoral land) and properties managed by Toitū Te Whenua. If you don't have an existing agreement, you'll need to submit an Expression of Interest.

Fees and timeframes

You will need to pay an application processing fee. Fees for use of the land may also be charged. The time to process your application will depend on the details and our backlog.

Rehearings and complaints

If you are concerned with the decision that's been made in relation to your application, you may be able to apply for a rehearing and/or can make a complaint.

The lands and properties we look after are held under a range of different legislation, each with different requirements. This means the obligations we have vary, depending on the legislation that applies.

Applications for property interests over coastal reclaimed land

If you are an eligible applicant you can apply for various property interests in reclaimed coastal land, ranging from freehold title to interests such as a lease, licence, or an easement.
