Toitū Te Whenua LINZ is working with sector stakeholders to create the New Zealand Property Spine. The Property Spine will bring together authoritative information held in independent datasets, centred on the common features of a property, such as address, title, parcel, and buildings.
The aim is to capture data for every property in New Zealand. Using a unique identifier for each property, we are connecting authorised users to the data various agencies collectively hold about it.
This supports planning and decision-making for national resilience and emergency responses, and environmental impact on properties. It will help provide a comprehensive picture of properties, including the use, condition, and density of buildings.
The New Zealand Property Spine draws together the common features of properties.
Access to Property Spine data
The New Zealand Property Spine is available through the LINZ Data Service, in the NZ Properties dataset. It includes the National District Valuation Roll dataset.
Access is limited to the following organisations:
- Public Service departments, departmental agencies and interdepartmental executive boards
- Non-Public Service departments in the executive and legislative branch
- Crown entities that are statutory entities (Crown agents, Autonomous Crown entities and Independent Crown entities)
