In late 2024, the Surveyor-General asked for feedback on a proposal to modernise the generation, view, and use of survey and title plans by replacing the current plans with a digitally visualised version.
We received 61 submissions from professional bodies, survey firms, individual lawyers, conveyancers, surveyors, and people connected to these professions.
Most submitters were in support of the proposals. They thought that digitally visualised plans would present opportunities to improve efficiency, increase accuracy, and reduce costs to both businesses and clients. However, the surveyor professional bodies reported that about a third of their members did not support the proposal.
Thanks to this wide range of responses we now have a clearer view of the work that needs to be done to support the implementation of this initiative, noting the substantial impact it will have on the users of cadastral survey information.
The Engagement Feedback Summary, including the Surveyor-General’s response and next steps is available on the LINZ website.
