Find out how much it costs to apply for consent, variation, or exemption and what penalties may be charged.

When fees and penalties are charged

We charge fees to assess applications for consent, variations, and exemptions and may charge additional administrative penalties – for example, if you file documents late or fail to obtain consent.  Fees vary according to the type of application, the value of the investment and whether we decide the application, or the decision will be made by Ministers.

Paying fees

Generally, we request the fee when we accept your application for assessment. We will not begin assessing an application until the relevant fee has been paid or we have received evidence of payment.

There are some exceptions:

  • Forestry standing consents: We request the fee when we are notified of the particular transaction.
  • Residential, non-residential, and incidental use standing consents:  We request the fees before consent is granted. There is no additional fee each time we are notified of a transaction.

Exemptions, discounts, and refunds

We do not have the power to exempt, waive, discount or refund fees. We will not refund fees if an application is withdrawn, consent is declined, or we find that no consent was required.
