Background

The Applicant is wholly owned by Presali Australia Holdings Pty Limited (Presali). Presali also owns Torbreck Vintners Pty Limited (Torbreck), an Australian grape grower, winemaker, and wine distributor with an international reputation for producing premium wines.

The land being acquired includes an existing vineyard and winery.

The Applicant intends to undertake a replanting program to regraft approximately three hectares of low-revenue Pinot Gris and Riesling vines with high-value Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines to produce greater amounts of higher-value wine for export. As part of the replanting programme the Applicant will also plant a small amount of additional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines.

The Applicant also intends redevelop the winery to increase its productive capacity, upgrade plant and machinery, and develop a tasting facility as well as a separate cellar door to improve the visitor experience of the wines produced.

Torbreck’s dedicated sales and marketing system will promote and sell Escarpment wines and increase export sales of Escarpment Pinot Noir and Chardonnay throughout the international wine market.

Four jobs are also likely to be created as a result of the investment being two viticulture cadetships, a marketing manager and a cellar door salesperson.
