Background

DG Founders General Partner Pte. Ltd is ultimately majority owned by the Galasso Family Trust, the trustees of which are French citizen Mr Rémi Galasso and his wife Ms Mania Marion Mosafer-Galasso, a New Zealand citizen.

Together with Singaporean company BW Digital Pte. Ltd, it is developing a hyperscale data centre park in Makarewa, Southland through Datagrid New Zealand Limited Partnership.

DG Founders General Partner Pte. Ltd is buying from BW Digital all its interests in the partnership. It intends to continue with the development and operation of the hyperscale data centre park.

Datagrid New Zealand Limited Partnership is also buying 9.63 hectares of land in Southland which adjoins land it owns for construction of the data centre to be used as an access road for it.

The benefits likely to occur include economic benefits include increasing New Zealand’s data processing capacity, increasing diversity and resilience of international connectivity, and adding competition in the data centre industry. It will also likely to result in significant capital expenditure and job creation.

Consent was granted as the Applicants met the investor test criterion and the investment is likely to benefit New Zealand.
