Consistency and quality
LINZ coordinates and partners with councils and other groups to ensure new LiDAR data meets the consistency and quality standards required to be published as part of the national elevation dataset.
New LiDAR data sets are quality checked and edited prior to publication as consistent and authoritative data for public consumption.
As new datasets are published, the national merged models are also updated.

We are keen to discuss partnerships to help grow and refresh this national resource.
Please get in touch if you have data that could be added to the national dataset or are planning a LiDAR data collection project. For LINZ to host the data it must comply with the national LiDAR base specification, and we recommend that buyers:
- Specify compliance with the national LiDAR base specification as a contract requirement
- Require that suppliers deliver the final data products directly to LINZ
- Make final payment conditional on LINZ QC acceptance.
We can provide support for the procurement process, quality control screening of the data deliverables, and distribution on several channels once the data is accepted. The merged national datasets will also be updated with the newer data.
