When fees and penalties are charged

The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) charges fees to assess applications for a consent to invest in sensitive New Zealand assets, for a variation to a consent or consent conditions, and for exemptions available under the act.

We also charge administration penalties, for example, if you apply for consent retrospectively, or if you file your documents late.

Consent fees

These fees are designed to align with the time spent on the different phases of the consent process. For some applications there is only one fee is payable. For applications that involve significant assessment and monitoring of consent conditions several fees are payable at different stages of the process.
