Set up an SMS or phone call for multi-factor authentication

How to set up an SMS text message or phone call for multi-factor authentication (MFA) to use for logging into New Landonline.

After entering your Landonline user ID and password, you'll be asked to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA).

You can choose to receive one-time codes through SMS text message or a phone call to a mobile or landline (direct dial only).

Step 1. Select Add a mobile number button as an MFA option

When you log in, you'll be asked to set up 1 MFA option.

Select Add mobile number (SMS/phone call).

Shows the screen when you log into Landonline. Highlighted is the button to select to set up SMS or phone call authentication. It's called 'Add a mobile number (SMS/phone call).

You'll be taken to the screen to add your mobile or phone details.

Step 2. Enter your phone number and select SMS or Phone

 

Important

You can only use New Zealand numbers (+64) for MFA.

Your phone must be charged and have cellular service. 

Enter your phone number into the Phone number field. Do not use spaces or add your country code. For example: 0255555555 or 015555555.

For SMS you must enter a mobile number. For a phone call you can enter a mobile or landline number. If using a landline number, you must use a direct dial and no extension numbers.

Select your preferred Contact Mode:

  • SMS text message, or
  • phone call.

Select Next.

You'll be taken to a screen to add a name for your device and your one-time code.

Step 3. Enter a name for your device

Enter a name for your mobile in the Mobile device name field. This helps identify which mobile is authenticating your log in. For example: Millie's work phone.

Step 4. Enter the one-time code from your phone and select Complete set up

A one-time code will be sent to your mobile by SMS, or you'll receive a phone call. The SMS code will expire after 5 minutes. 

Enter the code sent to you by SMS, or by phone call, into the One-time code field.

 

Select Re-send code if you don't receive a code in 30 seconds.

To change your mobile number or method of contact at this stage, select Previous step.

Select Complete Setup to continue.

Step 5: Add another MFA option or continue to New Landonline

A message will appear that your new MFA option has been set up.

Select Add an authenticator app (recommended) to set up a backup MFA option.

We recommend setting up a backup MFA option, in case your primary option becomes temporarily unavailable.

Or select Continue to go to your New Landonline session.

How often you need to MFA for New Landonline

Once you've registered your MFA option, you won't need to reauthenticate yourself until the next day.

When you log in for the first time each day, you'll enter your Landonline user ID and password, followed by a one-time code generated from your chosen MFA option. 

You should only be asked for a one-time code the first time you log in, per day, per device or browser.
