Work is underway to reduce a number of low-use rubbish bins from locations around Lake Dunstan.

Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is responsible for managing areas of land around the lake, including designated freedom camping sites.

LINZ Leader Land and Waterways Lee Farnhill says the agency is removing bins that are not well used across the year.

Mr Farnhill says it makes sense to focus our efforts on well-used sites such as the Lowburn and Bendigo camping areas to ensure the community can continue to enjoy them.

“Regardless of location we will be promoting a ‘pack in, pack out’ message throughout the busy summer season to encourage visitors to take their rubbish with them to preserve the natural beauty of these shared spaces.”

Mr Farnhill says he appreciates the community’s support in keeping these natural spaces clean for all to enjoy.
