The New Zealand Gazetteer website does not use cookies. We use Google Analytics to collect statistical information on traffic to the website.
Google Analytics does not collect the names of individual visitors, or information that can identify individuals. The information Google Analytics collects includes:
- your IP address, which may tell us your approximate location
- the search terms you use on the site
- links you click on within the site
- the date and time you visit the site
- the referring website (if any) through which you navigated to the site
- your operating system (such as Windows 11 or macOS 12)
- your web browser (such as Chrome, Safari or Edge)
- other incidental matters such as screen resolution and the language setting of your browser.

Security of collected information
Both Toitū Te Whenua LINZ and Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa New Zealand Geographic Board will periodically analyse Google Analytics data to identify usage and trends. This helps us find ways to improve the website. The data used in this analysis may be saved securely in Toitū Te Whenua LINZ’s document management system.
Privacy of collected information
Google Analytics data will be stored, used, retained and shared in accordance with our purposes for collecting it, at your direction and authorisation, or to comply with the law.
You have the right under the Privacy Act 2020 to obtain access to, and request correction of any personal information Toitū Te Whenua LINZ holds about you.
