What was proposed?
The proposals were to:
- make Te Punawaitī the official name of a spring in the bush northwest of Waipuna Stream at Waikawa, northeast of Picton.
- make Wairepo Stream the official name of a small stream flowing from the valley south of the Snout Track carpark at Victoria Domain for approximately 1.6km south then southwest to Picton Harbour.
Outcome
Now official
Te Punawaitī and Wairepo Stream were assigned as the official names for a spring and stream at Waikawa, northeast of Picton.

At its hui on 30 June 2026 the Board considered this report on the proposals, which is updated with the Board’s decisions. The proposals were notified for one month so that the public could make submissions supporting or objecting to the proposed names.
