Notice of intention to take land – Kumeū Secondary School Project - 60 Station Rd, Kumeū
Notice of Intention to Take Land for Education Purposes—Kumeū Secondary School Project, North Auckland Land District
Notice is hereby given that The Minister for Land Information, under the provisions of section 23 of the Public Works Act 1981, proposes to take the land described in the Schedule to this notice (“Land”).
The Land is required for construction of the Kumeū Secondary School Project. It is intended to use the Land for Education Purposes.
Reasons for Taking the Land
A summary of the reasons why the Minister for Land Information is of the opinion that the Land is required to be taken is as follows:
- The Minister’s objectives for the Project are to deliver a new secondary school meet existing and future secondary school demand in the Kumeū, Huapai, Riverhead, Waimauku, Muriwai and Taupaki areas.
- Adequate consideration has been given to alternative sites, routes or other methods of achieving the Minister’s objectives. A comprehensive process was followed to confirm the preferred site from a broad search area for a new school. The site chosen was considered most suitable for various reasons, including providing sufficient land area, good transport connections, available infrastructure and unique opportunities for integration with Huapai District School that are not available to the same degree at competing sites.
- The acquisition is fair as good faith negotiations have been ongoing since October 2025.
- The acquisition is sound as the requiring authority has carried out appropriate decision making. The requiring authority has also lodged a Notice of Requirement for the Project and affected owners and the wider community have been consulted as part of that process.
- It is reasonably necessary to take the Land as the requiring authority needs all of the Land for construction of the new school in order to best achieve the Minister’s objectives for the Project.
