What was proposed?

The proposal was to make Mount Kirk the official name of a prominent peak rising to 1436m west of Percy Saddle, Turret Range, in Fiordland National Park.

Outcome

Now official.

Mount Kirk is assigned as an official geographic name.

At its hui on 15 September 2025 the Board considered this proposal report, which is updated with the Board’s decision. The proposal was notified for two months so that the public could make submissions supporting or objecting to the proposed name.

 

At its hui on 30 April 2026 the Board considered this submissions report, which is updated with the Board’s decision. Because the Board didn’t agree with the objecting submissions it received, it requested the Minister for Land Information to make the final determination.
