What is proposed?

The proposal is to alter the recorded name of a locality south of Eketāhuna, north Wairarapa from Waiwaka to Wī Wāka as an official name.

What happens next?

The Board will consider the submissions received for this proposal at its next hui on 30 April 2026. The outcome will be that either the Board itself or the Minister for Land Information will make the final decision. This page will be updated when the final decision is made.

At its hui on 15 September 2025 the Board considered this report on the proposal. The proposal is notified for one month so that the public can make submissions supporting or objecting to the proposed name.
