The Minister for Land Information, Hon Chris Penk has announced the completion of a review of the Public Works Act (PWA) and outlined proposals to amend the Act.
The PWA is a key mechanism that enables public infrastructure projects. It has not been substantially amended since 1988.
Legislation is expected to be introduced to Parliament later this year. The public will have the opportunity to give feedback through the select committee process.

Critical infrastructure
Proposed legislative amendments are also underway for critical infrastructure projects. Eligible projects are either Roads of National Significance identified in the Government Policy on Land Transport 2024, or projects listed in Schedule 2 of the Fast-track Approvals Act that qualify as public works.
Legislative changes to support critical infrastructure projects is expected to be introduced to Parliament later this year.
