Display survey work

Display survey work spatially in Web Search, including parcels, non-boundary and boundary vectors, and marks.

You can display registered and approved surveys spatially in Web Search. This allows you to see a selected survey’s:

  • parcel extents
  • non-boundary vectors, and their bearings and distances
  • boundary vectors, and their bearings and distances
  • marks, and their mark names.

You can then select any of the displayed survey’s elements and view their full summary or add them to your product list.

Surveys available to display spatially

You can display survey work for:

  • Registered surveys
  • Approved surveys.

You can’t display survey work for:

  • Provisional surveys
  • Withdrawn surveys.

You can display up to 10 surveys spatially at a time. You must add each survey individually. If you try to display more than 10 surveys at once, a warning message will appear at the top right corner of the screen.

screenshot of the top right corner of a Web Search screen. A warning message is displayed: "you cannot display more than 10 surveys at the same time".

Surveys with no spatial data, for example Unit title or Cross lease, will display a warning message. Refer to the plan diagram instead.

Image of the message displayed when a survey has no spatial data to display. "This survey does not have any data available for display. Please refer to the plan diagram instead".

Pre-Landonline surveys may have little or no data to display in the spatial map. The Display survey confirmation panel will identify any unavailable display options.

How to add a survey to Display survey work

You can add a survey to display spatially by selecting the Add to display survey work icon from:

  • the survey summary page
  • the referenced surveys panel
  • the survey info panel in the spatial map
  • the product list.

You can repeat these steps for further surveys to view more than 1 survey at once.

Working with displayed survey information

The survey displays in the spatial map in the colour you choose. You can add more than 1 survey and select a different colour for each.

You can hide and unhide your displayed surveys as needed, see:
Hide or delete displayed surveys

You can turn the displayed survey layers such as vectors, marks, parcels, and labels on or off from the layer control panel. See:
Edit displayed survey layers from layer control panel

If you’ve zoomed your screen in or out, you can re-zoom to extents of the displayed survey via Layer control panel. See:
Zoom to extent of displayed survey

Tip: Reduce screen clutter

You can also hide or reduce unneeded underlying layers to help reduce screen clutter in the spatial window.

How survey objects are displayed in Web Search display survey work

Non boundary vectors are displayed as dashed lines.

Boundary vectors and parcel boundary lines are displayed as solid lines.

Arc vectors are displayed including the chord between the 2 marks. The chord will display the chord’s bearing, the arc’s radius, and the arc’s length.

Marks are displayed as hollow circles, for all mark types.

When Parcel fill is selected, Parcels are displayed filled in with a colour. Where 2 or more parcels overlap in the same survey, the colour is darker in these areas to help identify the overlapping parcels.

Where 2 or more surveys overlap each other and Parcel fill is selected, the colours will mix in these areas to help identify the areas of overlap.

image of 2 surveys displayed spatially in Display survey work. 1 is red and 1 is green. Where parcels from the 2 surveys overlap, the red and green also overlap, creating a brown colour. The displayed surveys are also identified in the Layer control panel by colour.

When you display 2 or more surveys at once, some marks, vectors, or boundary lines may be shared by more than 1 survey. When you select these ‘shared’ objects, a pop-up appears with a list of all spatial objects at that position. The objects are colour-coded to match the displayed surveys, so you can choose the object from the specific survey you want from the list.

Alternatively, temporarily hide any surveys in the Layer control panel that you don't want to currently view.
See: Hide or delete displayed surveys

Each occurrence is colour codeed to match the displayed surveys. There are also vectors visible in the list that are connected to the mark.

In some cases, the same object may have different names in different surveys. For more information, see:
Info panel for objects selected from displayed survey work

Select survey features

Use Web Search selection tools to select and view information for displayed:

  • Parcels (if Parcel fill is turned on)
  • Non boundary vectors
  • Boundary vectors
  • Marks

Displayed survey work has priority for selection over underlying layers. This means where displayed survey work overlaps active underlying layers, you will only be able to select the displayed survey work.

Hide or delete the displayed survey work layer if you want to select underlying layers.

See: Hide or delete displayed surveys

Standard selection mode

In standard selection mode, left-click on an object to view its info panel. The selected object highlights pink in the spatial map, and the object’s info panel opens.

Where objects intersect or overlap, a pop-up will appear allowing you to choose a specific object.

As you hover your mouse cursor over the listed objects, they highlight pink in the spatial map to help you identify them. Left-click on the required object in the list to select it and open its info panel.

From the info panel you can:

  • add the object to your product list
  • view a full summary of the object, and for a parcel also view the related title
  • add a mark to a coordinate transformation.

For more information on working with info panels, see:

Multi-Selection modes

For details on how to use Multi-select tools, see:
Multi-select tools

You can multi-select displayed survey objects. Any selected objects are added to the spatial bucket.

Decommissioned or pending marks will not be added to the spatial bucket.

All selected items have been added to the spatial bucket, located in the bottom left corner of the screen. Marks, Vectors, and Parcels each have their own section in the spatial bucket.

From the spatial bucket, you can:

Info panel for objects selected from displayed survey work

The info panel that opens when you select an object from displayed survey work is specific to the displayed survey that the object is part of.

This info panel may also have different information than the info panel for the underlying layer.

For example, a mark’s info panel will show the mark name assigned when that survey was carried out, and its condition and purpose as assigned by the surveyor. These may differ from the same mark’s info panel for a different survey.

This can be useful when tracking a mark’s history.

Example:

In the example below, we have displayed survey work for 2 neighbouring surveys, 1 in red and 1 in green.

When we select a mark that is shared by both surveys, we can see it has 2 different names. Note that the objects are colour coded to match the survey from where they came.

image of displayed survey work, with a mark selected. The pop-up panel shows the mark belongs to 2 surveys, however the mark name is different for the 2 surveys.

If we open the mark panel for each occurrence, we can see they have the same node ID. They are the same mark but were given different names in the 2 surveys.

If you have turned off the non-boundary vector and marks layers, then Zoom to extents will zoom to the parcel boundaries.

5. Hide or delete displayed surveys

You can hide or remove all currently displayed surveys at once, or individual displayed surveys.

Hide or delete all displayed surveys

Hover your mouse cursor over Displayed surveys to see the Delete category (rubbish bin) and Hide category (eye) icons.
