Tree maintenance work scheduled for Lowburn

Tree maintenance at the Lowburn freedom camping site will begin following the Easter school holidays.

Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) will be undertaking the work, which includes removing some damaged and in decline trees, and pruning others around the campsite.

During this period, campers may be asked to temporarily move to allow contractors safe access. LINZ also advises that there may be some noise and general disruption while the work is underway.

People may prefer to use alternative freedom camping areas nearby, including Bendigo, Jacksons Inlet and Champagne Gully, all located along State Highway 8 near Cromwell.

The work is expected to start late April and take two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
