Reduced fees for certain applications under the Overseas Investment Act come into effect on Friday 11 September 2026.

Fees under the Overseas Investment Act are regularly reviewed to ensure they are kept as low as possible. Other fees in the regime are being reviewed with decisions likely in 2027.

The new fees that will apply from Friday 11 September are set out below.

  • Primary Consent fees (Primary Consent and Production Forestry) will be $16,900 (reduced from $22,800).
  • National Interest Assessment fees for Non-New Zealand Government Investors will be $61,800 (reduced from $83,700, other national interest fees will stay the same).

In addition to the fee changes, LINZ will now have the power to waive, reduce or refund fees in certain circumstances where requiring payment would be unreasonable or where an administrative error needs to be corrected. Guidelines setting out the circumstances where these powers will be used will be published shortly.

Invoice request forms have been updated to reflect the new fees.
