The Maritime Digital Transformation (MDT) Programme will modernise how trusted maritime information is produced, delivered, shared and used across the maritime system. MDT aligns with emerging international maritime standards and supports New Zealand's ongoing compliance with applicable international obligations.
LINZ and Maritime New Zealand are leading the transition together through a joined-up programme, with clear and complementary responsibilities for delivery, regulation, engagement and sector readiness.
Aotearoa New Zealand relies on safe and efficient maritime navigation to support trade, economic wellbeing and environmental protection. MDT will support this by transitioning the maritime system from static navigation products to digital, data-centric navigation services.
The programme will support New Zealand to meet applicable International Hydrographic Organization and International Maritime Organization requirements, including the global transition to S-100-based navigation systems from 2029.
