Governance and engagement

The Maritime Digital Transformation (MDT) Programme is a joint initiative between LINZ and Maritime New Zealand.

Governance context

The programme operates under joint LINZ and Maritime New Zealand governance, reflecting shared accountability for system change across delivery, regulation, and sector readiness.

Joint agency governance focus areas include:

  • alignment with international standards and timelines
  • coordinated delivery of change to the sector
  • sector transition and readiness
  • benefit realisation and uptake
  • investment and delivery risk management.

LINZ will remain New Zealand’s national hydrographic authority.

Stakeholder, partner and customer engagement and influence

Stakeholders, partners and customers will help shape the transition through early, practical and evidence-led engagement, with feedback informing implementation, readiness and adoption support.

Māori, iwi and hapū interests will be considered through early and appropriate engagement, helping ensure the transition supports participation, readiness and long-term benefits across New Zealand's maritime system.
