Use cases

The 3D Coastal Mapping Programme (3DCM) has established an Advisory Group. The core purpose of the group is to demonstrate the value of programme data and encourage its uptake. Members will identify use cases, analyse the benefits, and contribute to validating and documenting benefits realisation.

The Advisory Group draws membership from key stakeholders across local and central government, Māori and iwi, science and research, academia, industry and commercial and special interest groups, and plays a central role in identifying use cases and evidencing benefit realisation.

Membership is intended to be adaptive as use cases are developed, ensuring members are engaged at the appropriate time — aligned to the availability of data relevant to their use case — and typically for the duration of their use case only. This approach will enable a greater number of stakeholders to participate across the programme lifecycle.

Use cases

Use cases (or case studies) are specific applications of 3DCM data, identified by members of the Advisory Group or programme stakeholders. Use cases are linked to benefits and the programme team will work with members to validate and document the benefits through to benefits realisation.

As use cases are progressed and validated using programme data, details of those use cases will be added here.

Example use cases include tsunami and storm surge modelling, aid to navigation planning, erosion assessments, search and rescue operations, and change detection.
