Reasons for decision
The Commissioner of Crown Lands grants consent to an exemption to the stock limitation in the lease to allow the leaseholder to carry the following stock:
- 4,300 sheep including not more than 3,000 breeding ewes
- 350 cattle including not more than 225 breeding cows.
The proposed stock exemption is within the overall safe carrying capacity of the property. While this number is less than the exemption requested, it better reflects recent grazing management and the carrying capacity of the land.
Conditions of decision
Consent is granted for an exemption to the stock limitation, subject to the following conditions:
- The lease continuing to be run with 180ha of freehold land.
- The approved farm manager residing on the station. Any changes to this arrangement would require consent from the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
- The following block limitations:
- Home Faces: Grazing at a rate of not more than .5su/ha based on an effective grazing area of 800 hectares.
- Mid-Longburn: Grazing at a rate of not more than .37 sheep/ha based on an effective grazing area of 1,200 hectares.
- Upper Shortburn: Grazing at a rate of not more than .36 sheep/ha based on an effective grazing area of 480 hectares.
- Lochy Valley Floor: Grazing at a rate of not more than 1.5su/ha based on an effective grazing area of 480 hectares.
- Billy Creek: Grazing at a rate of not more than .43su/ha based on an effective grazing area of 320 hectares, restricted to cattle grazing only.
- Upper Longburn: Grazing at a rate of not more than .2su/ha based on an effective grazing area of 270 hectares, restricted to cattle grazing only.
- All developed pastures being maintained with adequate fertiliser in accordance with best practice.
The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
