The Commissioner of Crown Lands grants consent to an exemption to the stock limitation in the lease to allow the leaseholder to carry the following stock:

  • 9,800 sheep (including 6,300 breeding ewes)
  • 1,300 cattle (including 900 breeding cows)
  • 50 tahr

Conditions of decision

Consent is granted, subject to the following conditions:

  1. That the Glen Lyon pastoral lease continues to be farmed in conjunction with approximately 652 ha of freehold land at Huxley Gorge.
  2. That stocking rates are managed in all blocks at a level that prevents excessive grazing and trampling of tussock grasslands, indigenous shrublands, beech forest, streams and wetlands, to avoid damage to inherent values.
  3. That any cattle observed within the braided river areas of the Hopkins or Dobson River during the bird breeding season (September to early February) are mustered out of the riverbed as soon as practicable.
  4. That the wetlands identified in the map attached to this Notice of Decision are no longer stocked.
  5. Developed paddocks shall be maintained by regular applications of fertiliser and seed as required.

The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
