What the decision relates to
Planting trees
Reasons for decision
The Commissioner of Crown Lands has determined that granting consent to plant trees will make it easier to use the land for farming purposes, and that any adverse effects on inherent values can be minimised through compliance with the conditions specified above.
Conditions of decision
Consent is granted for planting trees, subject to the following conditions:
- Planting locations are to avoid areas of indigenous vegetation.
- This consent is for shelterbelt and erosion control planting and does not include plantations.
- Plant species that are approved to form shelterbelts are natives, flaxes, poplars, non-seeding alders, or similar. Seed prone varieties e.g. conifers, are not to be planted.
- Replanting with the species approved may be undertaken.
- Existing indigenous shrubs are to be left in-situ and tussock retained, wherever possible.
- Native species are to be sourced from the Central Otago Ecological Region.
- All vehicles and equipment should be clean and clear of any weed seeds prior to entering the site.
- Maintenance of the plantings to prevent damage to fences is permitted.
- Not disturbing NZAA recorded archaeological sites.
- In the event of an accidental discovery of any archaeological sites, work will stop, and the lessee shall advise Heritage New Zealand of the discovery.
- Any fertiliser application must be to best practice, based on plant requirements, and undertaken in a way that prevents nutrients from reaching wetlands and waterways.
- That all contractors and employees working on Gorge Creek Station under this consent notice are informed of the conditions prior to the works commencing.
The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
