Welcome to this June edition of Landwrap.

How did that happen? It’s winter already! Make a warm cuppa and settle in for the latest updates across the survey and title system, along with reminders and upcoming changes to help you plan ahead.

Survey and Title Stakeholder Forum

In May we held an online Survey and Title stakeholder forum where representatives from the sector bodies came together with LINZ leadership to discuss property sector matters.

LINZ shared updates on organisational changes, the new Minister, AI use cases and progress with Landonline, which is tracking well. This included the final Modernising Landonline step, the database migration and version updates which were discussed.

Heads up on Contact Centre phone menu changes

We’ve reviewed how people choose phone queues and how often they get to the right place first time. As a result, some phone queue options will change in mid‑July. This includes:

• simpler wording in the phone menu
• possible changes to the queue number you select.

We’ll share full details before the changes happen through:

• the next Landwrap - if you miss an edition see Previous editions of Landwrap
• the Message Centre on the Landonline homepage.

Reminder to book an appointment in advance if you need to meet in person at a LINZ office

LINZ offices no longer accept visitors who arrive without a pre-booked appointment.

If you need to meet one of our team in person at one of our offices, please call 0800 665 463 to book an appointment ahead of time so we know when to expect you.

Don’t forget to renew your practising certificate

This is a reminder to lawyers and conveyancing practitioners to renew your practising certificate by 30 June 2026.

Only lawyers and conveyancing practitioners who hold a current practising certificate are authorised to certify and sign electronic transactions for registration via Landonline, as provided in section 28 of the Land Transfer Act 2017. Your authority to certify and sign will cease from 1 July if you do not renew your practising certificate before that date.

Feedback from consultation on Survey Control Standard

Many thanks to those who contributed to the feedback on the Surveyor-General’s proposals for the Survey Control Standard. The feedback was very supportive of the proposals with particular focus on preserving survey control marks. No major changes to the proposals are needed.

Later this year we will look to develop the Standard itself, which is primarily for use by LINZ’s geodetic team. However, they are already looking at implementing the proposals.

The feedback also included several operational suggestions which do not need to be included in the Standard but will be considered by the team.

Coming soon – output format change to PDF for survey plans

We are changing the underlying technology that compiles survey plans in Landonline. The file format is changing to PDF and there are minor styling/usability improvements for plans generated after the change.

What’s changing

• Output format for survey plans in My Messages and TA Certifications applications:
  • plans will be generated as PDF files instead of TIFF
  • the mark and vector report will be a searchable PDF document
  • this does not change any supporting document requirements.
• Look and feel:
  • survey plans created with the new technology will be easily recognisable by the
  • colour logo in the top right-hand corner
  • content remains the same
  • documents will have a cleaner more readable fonts and styles
  • all pages will be correctly orientated with printing now being seamless.
• Transition arrangements:
  • plans that have already been submitted using the old technology will be updated to the new format when a plan approves or deposits.

What you need to do

• No action is required.
  • The system will switch to the new functionality automatically on the effective date.

When

This change will roll out automatically in July. A screen will popup when you open survey capture once the new functionality is live in Landonline.

In summary

• Same information and requirements as today.
• Improved document format and presentation.
• Plans submitted using the old technology will be updated to the new format when the plan approves or deposits.

Web Search release: Search Statutory Action

Search Statutory Action is now available in Web Search.

You can search statutory actions by type:

• Gazette Notice
• Statutory Vesting
• Vesting on Deposit
• Other Statutory Actions.

Once you have searched a statutory action, you can view details such as date recorded or statute and section and see a list of affected parcels.

From an affected parcel’s summary page, you can view an image of the statutory action if available. Please note that not all parcels will have an attached image, and some statutory actions may not have an associated image at all.
