| Background | The Applicant is a member of the group of companies associated with the French luxury fashion house Chanel. The Land is currently operated as Lammermoor Station, which undertakes a diverse range of agricultural activity including cropping, livestock, wool, grain production, distilling and forestry. The Applicant intends to enter a joint venture with the Vendor to acquire the Land. The Applicant will invest in farm infrastructure on the land and intends for Lammermoor Station to become the first Regenerative Organic Certified fine wool producing farm in the world by 2029. The Vendor is retaining the deer farming, distillery and leisure activities operated from the Land. The main benefits to New Zealand are likely to include increased export receipts in premium wool, increased recognition to the New Zealand wool industry for luxury products, the increased viability of Lammermoor Station, increased capital expenditure, the retention of employment and environmental benefits in relation to the Regenerative Organic Certification and undertaking a carbon footprint project. Consent was granted as the Applicant has met the investor test criterion and the Investment is likely to benefit New Zealand. |
