Overseas investment decision for case 201810134 - EnviroWaste Services Limited

The Applicant is a nationally integrated waste management business which offers waste-related services to industry, councils and the public via collection services, one long-life landfill and transfer stations throughout New Zealand.

The land being acquired has been used by the Vendor as a quarry and cleanfill business, however the quarry pits are now retired. The Applicant intends to remediate the quarry and operate a major cleanfill and recycling operation on the land. The benefits to New Zealand once this operation is fully developed include:

• the creation of at least 12 new FTE job opportunities in New Zealand;
• the advancement of New Zealand’s Waste Strategy by development of an Infrastructure Disposal and Recovery Park, Dewatering Facility and Vermiculture Operation;
• the creation of public walking access over part of the land;
• preservation of indigenous flora and fauna through undertaking pest control measures and a trapping programme to protect native wildlife, planting riparian areas on the land in indigenous vegetation, fencing areas of the land, putting a weed control plan in place and removal of exotic plantation species from the land using a sustainable logging plan;
• enhancing the Auckland region’s cleanfill capacity; and
• the introduction of solar panelling to create and supply electricity to power various activities on the land and the introduction of a lithium ion battery bank allowing excess solar energy to be stored.
