Reasons for decision
The Commissioner of Crown Lands has determined that granting consent to consent to plant shelter belts on flats on Rata Peaks pastoral lease, will be of benefit to farming by providing additional shelter and have minimal adverse effects on inherent values.
Conditions of decision
Consent is granted for planting trees, subject to the following conditions:
- Consent is limited to the planting of the species applied for namely:
- Exotic species: Cupressus × leylandii 'Leighton Green' and Cypressus arizonica
- Natives: Plagianthus regius; Hoheria angustifolia; Coprosma propingua; Coprosma rugosa; Austroderia spp; Sophora microphylla.
- Replanting of approved species may be undertaken due to mortality.
- Maintenance of plantings to prevent damage to fences is permitted.
- Any fertiliser requirement must be based on plant requirements and undertaken in a way to prevent nutrients reaching wetlands and waterways
The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
