What the decision relates to
Stock Exemption
Duration of consent
Personal to Holder
Reasons for decision
The Commissioner of Crown Lands grants consent to an exemption to the stock limitation in the lease to allow the leaseholder to carry the following stock:
- 3320 Sheep (including not more than 1500 breeding ewes)
- 50 Cows
- 100 Alpacas or Llamas
The Commissioner has determined that the proposed stock exemption is within the overall safe carrying capacity of the property. The proposed stock exemption has the potential to affect the inherent values of the local ecosystem with indigenous areas of native shrubland and habitat for threatened and locally uncommon species present. The conditions imposed to limit the area that alpacas or llamas are to be grazed is to ensure any effect is minimised. The stock exemption recommended to be granted is on the basis of the current pastures being maintained in order to sustain the number of stock units allocated. Should this situation change the stock exemption would need to be re-assessed.
Conditions of decision
Consent is granted for a stock exemption, subject to the following conditions:
- The grazing of Alpacas or Llamas must be contained to the eastern faces of the pastoral leases as shown on the attached map.
- Existing development must be maintained with adequate fertiliser.
The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
