Decision
What the decision relates to
Carrying sheep and cattle
Duration of consent
Personal to holder
Reasons for decision
The Commissioner of Crown Lands grants consent to an exemption to the stock limitation in the lease to allow the leaseholder to carry the following stock:
- 8,000 Sheep (including no more than 3,000 breeding ewes)
- 300 Cattle (including no more than 100 breeding cows)
- 300 Deer
Continuation of the current stock numbers is consistent with the provisions of section 15(4) and will enable the incoming lessee to continue the current farming operation. The additional clauses are to ensure both pastoral and inherent values are maintained, and to assist with the Commissioner’s monitoring obligations.
Conditions of decision
Consent is granted for carrying sheep and cattle, subject to the following conditions:
- The Commissioner of Crown Lands may at any time revoke or amend this personal stock, particularly in the case off deterioration in the vegetation cover on the land.
- Records of the stock numbers (including age and class) run on an annual basis on the pastoral lease are to be kept and provided to LINZ on request.
- That stocking rates are managed in all blocks at a level that prevents excessive grazing and trampling of tussock grasslands, indigenous shrublands and forests, streams and wetlands, to avoid damage to inherent values.
- Developed paddocks shall be maintained by regular applications of fertiliser and seed as required and in accordance with relevant CPLA consents.
The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
