| Background | The Applicant is part of the Dawn Meats Group, a red meat processor from Ireland. Alliance is a New Zealand processor of sheep, deer and beef. It currently operates as a cooperative on behalf of approximately 4,300 farmer-shareholders. This land mainly comprises of 6 meat processing plants. The transaction is conditional on 75% of Alliance shareholders approving the acquisition. The main benefits to New Zealand are likely to be improved viability of the plants operated by Alliance Group Limited, retention of employment and additional capital expenditure. Consent was granted as the Applicant met the investor test criterion and the investment is likely to benefit New Zealand. |
