Why go digital
Developing digitally visualised survey plans will:
- create a product that is more user friendly than the current Landonline survey plans
- reduce the effort and rework involved in the preparation of manually drafted plans.
Give it a try
We've developed a prototype for you to try. We encourage you to access and use it first, and then read more about the proposal.
Experiencing how digitally visualised survey plans work will help you understand the benefits and changes needed.
The proposal
We're proposing to provide a tool to enable survey plan users (for example conveyancers, surveyors and their clients) to digitally view and interact with the data forming the Cadastral Survey Dataset (CSD).
This will remove the need for surveyors to submit diagrams as part of their CSDs.
The tool would not be able to be used for CSDs that already include a static survey plan - that is, all survey plans and CSDs up until the capability is legally introduced. Those plans would remain as the authoritative depiction of the CSD.
We recognise this would be a significant change that will require updates to the Cadastral Survey Rules 2021. Transition arrangements would also need to be in place.
Provide feedback
We need to understand the benefits, costs and risks associated with using digitally visualised survey plans.
Your feedback will ensure any further development is well informed and will work for you.
At this stage we are mainly interested in feedback on the proposal. Feedback on the prototype is also welcome however development work has now paused and will resume in 2025.
You can provide feedback from August to the end of October through your professional organisation (for example Survey and Spatial NZ, Institute of Cadastral Surveying, NZ Law Society and Law Association NZ) or as an individual by emailing engagement@linz.govt.nz.
