I am pleased that LINZ has issued the first set of guidelines to help overseas investors better understand how to invest in New Zealand and navigate the Overseas Investment Act process.
The guidelines bring together existing policy settings and consent criteria in a single, more accessible format. They are designed to give investors greater certainty and make it easier to understand how the Overseas Investment Act applies to different investments.

New investment guidelines
New guidelines are now available to help overseas investors better understand how to invest in New Zealand and navigate the Overseas Investment process.
The guidelines set out in practical terms how specific provisions of the Overseas Investment Act apply to different types of investments and applications. This includes the factors we consider when assessing applications for exemptions under section 61D of the Overseas Investment Act, and how decisions to acquire fresh or sea water areas will be made.
The guidelines provide detailed technical advice to support investors and their lawyers to make informed investment decisions.
