Moving from Legacy to new Plan Generation

Is it expected that there will be issues and changes when a Legacy plan is put into new Plan Generation? We have multiple plans already completed that will not lodge before Sept 30th. What amount of rework are we expecting?

Our testing has not indicated that plans will need rework when transitioning from Legacy to new. The overlays shown earlier in the webinar indicate the small shift in labels that you will experience. We demonstrated this in the video: See 6:37

As with all datasets you should do a visual inspection of all pages before lodgement.

Does approved prior to September 30 mean lodged for approval or actual approval?

Plans will need to be approved prior to 30 September. This means that the plan will need to be lodged well in advance of 30 September – we are suggesting no later than the end of August in most cases.

See below for a link to our current processing times to help you determine when you need to have submitted your survey by. Remember to factor in the additional time that would be required to resolve a requisition.

Are improvements going to be notified as they are for capture?

Yes, they are – via splash screens, the What’s new page etc.

Will new Plan Generation trigger any Error 47 messages?

This error has not occurred during testing by our pilot users.

Plan Generation functionality

You created a User Defined Primary Diagram which was outside the extents of the system generated one. If you had created a child diagram, would the adult/child labelling have worked? This does not work in Legacy.

The labelling of diagrams in new Plan Generation will work the same as Legacy Landonline.

Is there a fix for the system generated diagram labels disappearing? Sometimes we need to manually add them as user added text and leaves room for human error with sheet references.

Label assignment to diagrams will work in the same way as Legacy Landonline.

Is there auto-save in capture or Plan Generation? Does CTRL+S work?

Survey capture auto-saves as you work. We don’t have auto-save for Plan Generation, but it does have a recovery file that will be available in the event of a browser crash. We demonstrated this functionality in the video: See 51:20
See also: Auto-recovery in Layout Plan Sheets

CTRL+S will initiate a save in Plan Generation. Other standard keyboard shortcuts like CTRL+C and CTRL+V for cutting and pasting also work.

If you move a diagram is the functionality to move associated user-added text/lines the same amount as the diagram the same as in Legacy?

Yes, you can do this in new Plan Generation. We demonstrated this functionality in the video: See 54:21
See also: Apply last diagram move/resize to user-added text or lines

Have the trails back to the original position for moved text disappeared?

The leader line for a moved label is shown when you left-click and hold on the label while it is selected. The line appears as a dotted grey line from the label to its original position.

Can you double-click items (text, lines, etc) to bring up properties?

We demonstrated the text you can double click on and those you can’t in the video: See 59:30

You can’t double-click on lines to bring up their properties.

Does Plan Generation time out/auto close if inactive for a certain period?

Yes, it will time out after 15 minutes of inactivity, the same as survey capture. Note that Landonline closes at 10pm weekdays and 7pm weekends. Please make sure you save and exit Plan Generation Layout Plan Sheets before closing times.

Does the same apply to stacked lines selection as works for stacked text selection?

We demonstrated multiple line selection in the video. See 37.31

Is hide zero seconds still an option?

Yes, this functionality is available. Select the label you want to hide, right click and select Properties, then click Hide 00
See also: Hide 00 seconds for bearing observations

Would CTRL+A work for selecting all labels prior to removing 00" (seconds)?

You can select all bearing labels on the screen by first selecting the Select Labels tool. Then hold down the CTRL key and left drag the mouse to create a selection box. Right click, select Properties, then Hide 00

Suggestions for Plan Generation improvements

Are there any plans to make the system generated diagrams editable?

We are retaining the same functionality as Legacy for system generated diagrams.  We suggest that you use user-defined diagrams if you want to adjust the extent of information shown on the main diagram.

Can maintain diagram options be set as a default so you don't need to set them for every plan?

At this stage we need to maintain compatibility with Legacy Landonline so are replicating the same functionality. Great suggestion. We can add it to our backlog and look at prioritising in the future.

How about "select all" and "de-select all" buttons in the maintain diagram layers box? Maybe not regenerating unused diagrams would speed things up too.

More good suggestions. We will consider the work required and add to the backlog for prioritisation in the future.

Are there plans to make the abuttal and calc line-styles available for manually added lines? Or masking options for mark names? For example, hiding a calc line so a mark name can be placed over it, then drawing two manual lines either side of the mark name is not currently possible because there is no calc line style available. (A mask would be preferable.)

We have focused on delivering the same functionality as Legacy Landonline so we can retain compatibility. At this stage we won’t be adding new line-styles.

Will carriage return be added for mark names?

No, we have retained the same functionality as Legacy Landonline.

There was talk early in the piece about possibly having portrait plans or allowing north to be rotated. Is this something that is still being considered/developed?

There are no plans to provide for portrait plans.

How about using arrow keys to move things, would be especially good for small movements?

Thanks for the suggestion, we would be interested in others’ feedback on this. You can provide feedback on Landonline survey via the form below or the feedback icon in the Landonline Survey application.

Has any consideration been given to having separate default settings for parcel appellations and easement appellations, to set different font sizes?

Thank you for the suggestion. Right now we are focused on matching what Legacy Landonline can do, so we haven’t had a chance to look at improving features yet.

In Legacy when adding new text & lines you can select the added line immediately without using the select button, but in the new version you have to change to the select tool to select the new text or line. Will this feature return?

After placing user-added text the Select Labels tool is selected allowing you to edit the user-added text. Functionality that will allow you to set the properties of a line before adding a line is coming soon.

Any plans to align multiple labels to a line, or allow double-line text for appellations that will automatically add the second line after the Lot number/before DP number?

Our initial focus has been on delivering similar functionality to Legacy Landonline and at this stage we are not considering functional improvements.

Any chance you could add functionality for further shortcut keys? For example, 'P' to bring up properties for a selected line or text, or shortcuts to change line selection type. It would make it a lot more like normal CAD programs.

Our initial focus has been on delivering similar functionality to Legacy Landonline and at this stage we aren’t planning to add further shortcut keys.

With the ending of Legacy will there be a move to enable colour diagrams to be included as part of a dataset either in plans or within supporting documents? For example, occupation diagrams in colour / backed by an aerial photo.

At this stage we are focused on replacing Legacy functionality. With future plans to move to Digitally visualised survey plans, colour is a possibility.

Could commonly used user-added text phrases required for say CSR 2021 Rules 87,88, 103 and 104 be introduced?

At this stage we are focused on delivering similar functionality to Legacy plan generation. In the future, with Digitally visualised survey plans, the annotations you mention will need to be recorded as attributes in survey capture.

It would be helpful to draw lines at either vertical or horizontal only (0 degrees or 90 degrees) when doing diagrams, especially height limited diagrams.

We are not intending to add functionality to assist with drawing horizontal and vertical lines. We recommend the use of plan graphics to create cross sections for height limited diagrams.

Is there going be a method to stack bearing and distance with a common spacing?

Our initial focus has been on delivering similar functionality to Legacy Landonline and at this stage we are not considering functional improvements.

Other Landonline Survey improvements

Often a high SEUW for the constrained adjustment relates to issues with the marks that Landonline holds fixed in the adjustment, and it is not possible for us to fix this. Is there a plan to provide users more control over the fixed adjustment to avoid the need for LINZ to modify existing marks to make the data fit?

At this stage, this work is unlikely to be considered for improvement for quite some time. If you experience an issue like this we recommend that you call customer support on 0800 665 463 for assistance.
